2005–2016

In the years between 2005 and 2016, our focus was primarily on strengthening civil society structures in Syria. In particular, we worked with young people and women, i.e. with actors who are more interested in social change than others due to their often marginalized situation.

We first became active on the ground in 2005. Our first project in Syria was about setting up a center for street children in al-Qāmišlī. Ultimately, the project could not be implemented due to the lack of approval from the Syrian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Nevertheless, it was a crucial project for our work, as we were able to gain experience in the country and establish contacts during this time. We were able to lay the foundations for the successful establishment of various women’s and youth centers as well as several community radios.
