1993–2000

Since 1993 we have organized several interdisciplinary lecture series at the Free University Berlin (FU) on Kurdish themes. In the academic year 1996/1997 we successfully convinced the university to establish a guest professor for Kurdish Studies in the FU Institute of Anthropology. The position was filled by Professor Martin van Bruinessen.

In 1998 we were awarded the FU Magherita-von-Brentano Prize for promoting gender research in Kurdish Studies research and teaching. In the academic year 1999/2000 the FU set up a new research position at the Institute of Iranian Studies. However, our goal of establishing Kurdish Studies as a regular field of study could not be achieved.
